Coastal Flood Warning

... Coastal Flood Warning in effect until 8 am akdt Friday... ... High surf advisory is cancelled... The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a coastal Flood Warning... which is in effect until 8 am akdt Friday. The high surf advisory has been cancelled. * Waves and surf... seas of 10 to 14 feet breaking offshore and a storm surge of 1 to 2 feet is expected. * Winds... west winds up to 40 mph becoming up to 30 mph after midnight. * Timing... the highest storm surge is ongoing and will continue through this afternoon. Storm surge of 1 to 2 feet is expected at the height of the event. * Location... Barrow. * Impacts... minor coastal flooding is occurring. Stephenson street in Barrow is being impacted with water over the top of the street. Berms near the coast are being rebuilt due to the storm surge. Water is being pushed up to the top of the beach and causing beach erosion. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A coastal Flood Warning means that rising sea water that causes flooding is expected. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water... and take actions to protect life and property.
They have closed most of the businesses and have declared a city of emergency. I think I will probably get a taxi home today.....
